On Friday night, a battle of the unexpected’s take place when the No. 5 ranked Centennial Huskies and No. 12 Santa Margarita Catholic Eagles square off for the CIF Southern Section Division I championship at the Rose Bowl. The game kicks off 7 p.m. Eastern Time and 10 p.m. Pacific, but before any of that happens, we give you players to watch for and which streaming service you can watch this clash of California high school football national powerhouses on.

Huskies to Watch

Centennial (11-1) enters Friday’s game looking to win their first CIF Southern Section Division I title back in 2015 and a decade later are aiming to do the same against one of the top defensive units in the country. The Huskies are coming off defeating Mater Dei for the second time this California high school football season and now will have to pull off the win at the Rose Bowl after winning 10 games in a row. We take a look at which Huskies’ players will be the ones to watch for.

QB Dominick Catalano: The senior quarterback has been the steady behind center throughout the season as he looks to cap his final game just like his brother, Anthony, did before him a decade ago. Catalano this season has completed 137 of 239 passes for 2,187 yards and 19 touchdowns. Don’t sleep on Catalano’s running abilities as he’s rushed for 575 yards and scored seven times on the ground.

TE Keawe Browne: Browne, a Boise State commitment, has been one of the top pass catchers for the Huskies’ offense throughout the season for Catalano. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound tight end has hauled in 27 passes for 469 yards and scored six touchdowns. When it comes to big redzone targets, expect Centennial to look for the big man in the endzone.

S Jaden Walk-Green: The junior three-star safety has been a tackling machine out of the secondary for Matt Logan’s defense this season. Walk-Green has been a playmaker against ball carriers and making plays in the secondary, with the junior racking up 117 tackles and has intercepted 10 passes.

DL Miles Schirmer: Though Schirmer doesn’t lead the team in tackles or sacks, the three-star defensive lineman sets the tone up front for the Huskies’ defensive line. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound junior lineman has totaled 38 tackles and three sacks this season, but has also been one of the most difficult players to block for opposing offensive linemen.

Eagles to Watch

Ever since losing to St. John Bosco back on Oct. 17, the Santa Margarita Catholic Eagles have been on a roll and have notched wins over Orange Lutheran, twice, and previously undefeated Sierra Canyon. Now with a chance to win a CIF Southern Section Division I championship in Year 1 of Carson Palmer at the helm, it’ll be on the backs of the Eagles’ defense to come up with another masterful California high school football performance on Friday night.

WR Trent Mosley: Between the two teams, Mosley is certainly a player that can be moved all over the field considered one of the most versatile of anyone offensively. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound USC commitment has totaled 624 all-purpose yards and nine total touchdowns.

QB Trace Johnson: The Tulane commitment has settled in nicely behind center for Carson Palmer and now heads into his first championship game as a high school quarterback. Johnson has completed 180 of 285 passes for 2,142 yards, 14 touchdowns and only five picks. If the Eagles are going to win, they’ll need a solid performance from Johnson.

S Logan Hirou: The UCLA pledge looks to lead a Santa Margarita defensive unit that will look to slow down a Centennial offense that’s averaging 46.4 points per game. Hirou leads the way on the back end with 61 tackles and has picked off two passes.

LB Leki Holani: Setting the tone in the defensive front seven for Santa Margarita Catholic is the senior 6-foot-, 223-pound middle linebacker. Holani this season has done a solid job patrolling the middle of the defense for the Eagles, tallying a team-high 91 tackles, 14 for loss and 4.5 sacks.
