Sydney Sweeney joins the new DC Universe as its Power Girl in DCU art. Sweeney has become a popular pick for many DC characters, but so far, the actress has yet to have her name linked to any of them in an official manner. That said, James Gunn's DC Universe is only just starting, so there is plenty of time for Sweeney to join.
Next up for the actress will be the thriller The Housemaid, in which Sweeney is joined by 1923 star Brandon Sklenar. The actor has become one of the fan-favorite choices to lead the DCU's upcoming movies as Batman, and with Sweeney also a popular fancast for multiple DC heroes, the project grows increasingly exciting. Fan art even depicts who Sweeney could play in the DCU.
On X, @21xfour shared what Sydney Sweeney could look like as Power Girl in the new DC Universe.
The DC fan art sees Sweeney with fuller, wavier blonde hair than what we are used to seeing from the actress. As for the Power Girl suit, Sweeney dons a comics-accurate take on the alternate Earth's Supergirl. Classic elements like the red, white, and blue color scheme, the chest opening, and the red cape appear.
Why Sydney Sweeney Is Perfect For The DC Universe's Power Girl

With the DCU still establishing itself, it would be in Gunn's best interest to cast rising stars who could play these roles for the next decade or more. At 28, Sweeney would be perfect as one of the pillars of the DCU. She has appeared in multiple popular projects that have solidified her Hollywood presence, such as Euphoria, The White Lotus, and more.
Sweeney even has experience in the superhero realm. While Sony's Madame Web was a box office bomb, that was not really down to its cast, which featured stars like Dakota Johnson and Superman's Hawkgirl actress Isabela Merced. The brief time given to Sweeney in her Spider-Woman costume was enough to leave the audience wanting more, which DC could offer in another role.
In Euphoria, Sweeney showed her range by playing Cassie Howard, a complex character. Cassie can go from a sweet and insecure girl to someone capable of great feats of rage due to how unstable and volatile she can be as she pursues what she wants. In Anyone but You, Sweeney's Bea was independent and confident, the opposite of Cassie. Sweeney has range.
Power Girl Not Being Played By Milly Alcock Would Be For The Best
Milly Alcock As Supergirl Looking Shocked In The Fortress of Solitude In Superman
On the one hand, DC could just have Milly Alcock play both Supergirl and Power Girl. After all, the latter is the Earth-2 version of Kara Zor-El. In both Superman and Peacemaker season 2, we have seen DCU actors playing clones or alternate dimension versions of themselves. While that could tease Alcock playing Power Girl, I think that is why she should not.
It is time DC started having different actors play alternate versions of DCU characters, or the franchise risks making its multiverse feel small right off the bat. Given that Power Girl is usually a more mature and experienced version of Kara, Sydney Sweeney could easily make the character her own, as Alcock's Supergirl has a "party girl" persona at the moment.
