It truly is giving season. PlayStation is offering up an extra two free titles for gamers to get their hands on in December, marking something of a departure from the norm.

While these two games won't be free for everyone, PlayStation Plus users are getting some serious bang for their buck in December with the addition of not one, but two bonus titles. We absolutely love to see it.

PlayStation Plus Offering Bumper Crop Of Free Games

We're not used to this, but we'll take it

Aloy from Lego Horizon Adventures

Longtime PlayStation Plus subscribers will know that the PlayStation Plus Essential monthly free games are usually limited to three. Which, to be fair, is more than enough to be getting on with most of the time.

However, PlayStation just announced the free Essential games for December 2025, and it looks like a little something extra has made its way into our stocking. Either PlayStation has forgotten how to count to three, or it's feeling the festive spirit. I reckon the latter.

The free PlayStation Plus Essential games for December are:

  • LEGO Horizon Adventures
  • Killing Floor 3
  • The Outlast Trials
  • Synduality Echo of Ada
  • Neon White

Not the most Christmassy lineup of games, I grant you. The Outlast Trials is definitely a... choice for the festive season, but Neon White is a banger at any time of year and LEGO Horizon Adventures could be good family fun over the holiday period.

Is This Usual For PlayStation Plus?

Looking back, definitely not

I did briefly wonder if PlayStation has always offered extra free PlayStation Plus games over Christmas and I'd just forgotten, but that's definitely not the case.

December 2024 saw the usual three games (It Takes Two, Temtem, Aliens: Dark Descent), and it was the same the year before that (Lego 2K Drive, Powerwash Simulator, Sable). I'm not complaining, mind you! I just think it's interesting PlayStation has gone and given us a bumper crop of freebies this year.

PlayStation wrote on its blog announcing the 2025 lineup:

"To mark the year’s end and to start the holiday celebrations early, we’re pleased to make December’s PlayStation Plus Monthly Games lineup a special one."

The new batch of PlayStation Plus games will be available to download from December 2, and remain available until January 5. That's a decent amount of time to get through all five, especially considering none of them are especially lengthy games.
