Bayer Leverkusen coach Kasper Hjulmand said that he sometimes thinks of Christian Eriksen after the emotional experience at Euro 2020.

Hjulmand, then Denmark coach, watched from the sidelines as Eriksen had a cardiac arrest during the opening group stage match against Finland.

Eriksen was able to continue his career and now at Wolfsburg, will have a reunion with his former coach as his side host Leverkusen on Saturday.

"When there are quieter moments, I sometimes think of him. The situation back then changed my life a bit," Hjulmand said in a news conference on Friday.

"After that time, he returned in an international match against the Netherlands and scored after just a few minutes. It was incredibly nice to see him back on the pitch. He's a great player and an even better person," he added.

Hjulmand stressed he's "looking forward to seeing" Eriksen again, but that he's 100% focused on the game and that he wants to win.

"After the final whistle, if there's time, I can have a chat with him and the others," he said.

Hjulmand said that defenders Alejandro Grimaldo and Arthur are doubtful for the Bundesliga match, but that Nathan Tella will be back in the squad.

"There is a question mark over Grimaldo. We have our final pre-match training session this afternoon, he'll be there and then we'll decide whether he's fit enough. The same applies to Arthur," he said.
