Alpine skiing Olympic champion Lara Gut-Behrami will miss the rest of the season, including the 2026 Games, after she suffered a cruciate ligament tear on her knee, the Swiss Ski federation said in a statement on Thursday.

"Lara Gut-Behrami will not be able to compete in any more races in the 2025-26 season," the statement read.

The two-time World Cup champion will have to undergo surgery, which is to take place next week. Gut-Behrami crashed during a super-G training in Colorado last week.

"I had imagined the next few months would be very different and was really looking forward to the rest of the skiing season. We have recently experienced some dramatic events in our sport, with fatal accidents involving young athletes. I believe that a knee injury, however complex it may be, cannot be considered a tragedy," she said.

Besides missing the Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Gut-Behrami also faces the prospect of an early end to her career as she recently said that this current season would be her last.

"My goal is to recover fully from this injury and get back to my best. Only then will I know what the future holds for me," she said.

Throughout her career, the Swiss won one Olympic gold, two world championships golds and two overall World Cup titles.
