PORTALES, New Mexico (KMID/KPEJ) – Art Briles has officially been named the next head football coach of the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds. Briles has over 40 years of coaching experience and was most well-known for his time at Houston (2002-07) and Baylor (2008-15).
During that time, the Rule Native was named the AP College Football Coach of the Year (2013). He led both squads to a combined record of 99-65, including 10 bowl game appearances. Briles also won two Big 12 Championships and was the coach of Robert Griffin III when he won the Heisman Trophy in 2013.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWhen it comes to high school football, Briles has coached in 235 games with a 185-49-1 overall record. According to ENMU Athletics, he began his head coaching career at Hamlin High School in 1984 and has had stops at Georgetown (1986-87), Stephenville (1988-99), and Mount Vernon (2019-20). With Stephenville, he won four 4A state championships over 12 seasons.
Briles takes over a Greyhounds team that hasn’t had a winning season since 2019, and this season finished at 3-8.
