On Monday night, Carolina Panthers safety Tre'von Moehrig landed a low blow to San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings. And now, on Tuesday, Moehrig has been punched back—by the NFL.

As announced this afternoon, Moehrig has been suspended without pay for one game due to his actions at the end of yesterday's 20-9 loss. The league, which has classified Moehrig's shot to Jennings' groin as an act of "unsportsmanlike conduct," released the following on their decision:

During the fourth quarter, Moehrig punched San Francisco wide receiver Jauan Jennings at the end of a play, violating Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1, which applies to "any act which is contrary to the generally understood principles of sportsmanship," including, among others, "throwing a punch, or a forearm, or kicking at an opponent."

Moehrig will be eligible to return to the Panthers' active roster on Monday, Dec. 1, following the team's Nov. 30 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Moehrig may appeal the suspension. Any appeal will be heard and decided upon by either Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson, the hearing officers jointly appointed and compensated by the NFL and NFLPA to decide appeals of on-field player discipline.

According to ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, Moehrig is expected to appeal the ruling.
