By Soo KimShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberAs the busy Thanksgiving travel period gets underway, a new study has revealed the snacks Americans are grabbing from different airports before take-off.
Holafly, an eSIM provider, determined the most popular snacks available at airports in the United States based on keyword search volumes across the country.
Oreos, the sandwich cookie with a white cream filling, grabbed the top spot in the ranking, with 113,380 searches reported nationwide.
Oreo cookies were followed by three savory snacks—Jack Link's Beef Jerky, Cheetos Puffs, and the Cheetos Flamin’ Hot Crunchy—in second, third, and fourth places, respectively. Rounding out the top five were Twizzlers, the most favored in nine states, while Oreos were the top favorite in three states, according to the study.
...Among other most favored airport snacks were a mix of various jelly candies, such as Sour Patch Kids (ranking 6th), Welch's Fruit Snacks (8th), and Haribo Gummy Bears (10th). Dunkin' Doughnut (7th) and Doritos Cool Ranch chips (9th) were also among the popular favorites.
The least favorite airport snack among those represented was found to be Chobani Vanilla Yogurt, which reportedly garnered just 8,700 searches. However, it was the most popular airport snack in Massachusetts.
Though it did not make the top 10 ranking, M&M chocolate candies were the top favorite in Utah and Oklahoma, while another Doritos chip, which appears to be the Extra Flamin’ Hot flavor, was the most popular in New Jersey and North Carolina, according to a map of the most favored snacks in each state from Holafly.
Nearly 82 million people are expected to travel over Thanksgiving this year, from November 25 to December 1, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA).
Six million U.S. travelers will take domestic flights over the Thanksgiving holiday period, marking a 2 percent rise from 2024. “That figure could end up being slightly lower as some air travelers make other plans following recent flight cancellations,” the AAA said.
