Milan got the better of Inter in the Derby thanks to a cautious game plan, outstanding goalkeeping, and lethal counter-attacking. It’s not the first time the formula works out splendidly for the Rossoneri in crunch matches, while their cousins have some work to do when facing other title contenders, Corriere della Sera informs.

Despite often pulling the strings and creating a host of chances, the Nerazzurri had also been beaten by Juventus and Napoli. They have been nearly perfect against the minnows, dropping points only against Udinese, which allows them to stay close to the top.

While Inter are no strangers to running into some trouble against tough competition, Milan have shone on those occasions, considering they previously topped Roma and Napoli and shared the spoils with Juventus in a match they should have won.

Conversely, the Rossoneri have often stuttered against smaller sides, recently drawing with Parma and Pisa and losing to Cremonese in the opener.

According to Opta (via Mediaset), they have stayed undefeated in six consecutive derbies: it’s the first time it has happened since the period between November 2002 and April 2025, when they avoided defeats for ten consecutive cross-town clashes. They kept the clean sheet after conceding in the previous 18 meetings with La Beneamata.

The Nerazzurri had 20 shots without scoring for the first time since the stat began being tracked in 2004/2025. Hakan Calhanoglu missed just his second PK out of 23 attempts in Serie A.

Our Take on the Derby Between Inter and Milan

In the long run, the successful formula is the Nerazzurri’s one out of sheer volume, but the flaws of Massimiliano Allegri’s team are more fixable.
