The teams first played on March 14, 1969 during the NIT in New York, New York, The Vols earned a, 67-51, win. Tennessee finished third place in the NiT, recording a victory over Ohio before losing in the semifinals and defeating Army.
Tennessee also defeated Rutgers, 87-79, on Nov. 19, 1992, in Piscataway, New Jersey.
