With the win over the Demons, the ‘Jacks captured the outright Southland Conference title, their first since 2010.
As one of the top eight seeds in the field of 24 teams, SFA earns a first-round bye in the FCS Playoffs, and will host either Lamar or No. 10 Abilene Christian in the second round.
SFA lost to ACU by eight earlier this season, and the ‘Jacks beat Lamar 26-15 in their second-to-last regular season game.
Regardless of who SFA faces in the second round, the ‘Jacks are savoring their return to the FCS Playoffs and are focused on making a run at Nashville.

You know, there’s not many teams in FCS that can say they held the Houston Cougars to three three-and-outs. I mean that showed kind of where we were defensively and we’ve built on that and offensively gotten people healthy and playing at a much higher level throughout the year and so I think it’s well deserved. You saw the reaction from the kids. They’re excited. That bye week it helps because we are banged up. Everybody in the country is banged up this time of year, so to be able to…to be able to just practice this week, hold some guys out, get some guys maybe a little bit healthier. You’re never gonna be 100 percent but I think that definitely was warranted, needed, and the guys were excited about it,” SFA head football coach Colby Carthel said.
SFA will host the winner of Lamar vs. No. 10 Abilene Christian on Saturday, December 6 at noon from Homer Bryce Stadium in Nacogdoches.
