One of Clemson football's annual opponents made a decision on the immediate future of their head coach Sunday.

The Florida State Seminoles, who have been on the Tigers' schedule since joining the ACC in 1992 and will host Clemson at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee next year, announced Sunday that coach Mike Norvell would return for a seventh season in 2026.

Florida State fell to 5-6 following a sloppy 21-11 loss at NC State in Raleigh on Friday, forcing the Seminoles into a must-win game against the rival Florida Gators at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Week 14 in order to secure a bowl berth. FSU committed four turnovers in the loss to the Wolfpack.

The Noles wrapped up ACC play at 2-6, a slight improvement from their 1-7 mark a season ago. Florida State suffered a 24-10 loss to Clemson on Nov. 8 at Memorial Stadium. It was the Seminoles' ninth loss to Dabo Swinney and the Tigers in the series' last 10 meetings dating back to 2015. Norvell fell to 1-4 against Clemson.

Norvell is 7-16 since guiding Florida State to a 12-0 regular season and the ACC championship in 2023. Florida State was left out of the four-team College Football Playoff that year in favor of one-loss Alabama and Nick Saban. One of the Seminoles' biggest victories that season came in a 31-24 overtime win over Clemson in Death Valley.

Norvell is 38-33 in six seasons at Florida State and has had just two winning seasons.
