Mark Wahlberg might have one of his newer hits (Flight Risk) streaming on Starz, but it’s one of his older action thrillers that’s finding an audience again. Nearly two decades after its theatrical release, Wahlberg’s Shooter has clawed its way back into the streaming spotlight, cracking the Top 10 on Paramount+. At the time of writing, it sits comfortably at #10.

Director Antoine Fuqua's Shooter sees Wahlberg star as elite sniper Bob Lee Swagger (the kind of name that's so ridiculous he could only be in a movie), who is framed for the murder of a foreign dignitary and must go on the run while attempting to clear his name.

While Shooter wasn’t a runaway hit in theaters — grossing $95 million against its $61 million budget — it has long found a second life on home video and streaming. Critics weren’t all that kind, giving it a 47% on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences were much more forgiving, pushing the score up to a solid 80%. Wahlberg himself spoke about the film’s lasting appeal in a 2013 interview with Hollywood.com, saying he hoped it would “inspire people to want to go out there and vote and do something.”

Part of what keeps Shooter a popular one for viewers is Fuqua’s ability with rough, politically-tinged thrillers. The director first earned praise with Training Day (2001), which won Denzel Washington his second Oscar. He followed Shooter with Gerard Butler's Olympus Has Fallen (2013), another mid-budget action flick that did better than expected at the box office, with $170 million worldwide. Most recently, Fuqua finished The Equalizer trilogy with Washington and serves as a producer on Prime Video’s The Terminal List. His next project is the long-anticipated Michael Jackson biopic on which he serves as a producer, currently set for 2026 after several delays.

What Other Mark Wahlberg Movies Are on Paramount+?

Of course, Shooter isn’t Wahlberg’s only mid-noughties fan-fave sitting on Paramount+. Another of his classics, The Italian Job (2003), is also streaming. That heist movie paired Wahlberg with Jason Statham, Charlize Theron, Edward Norton, and Donald Sutherland for a slick, fast-paced ride that grossed $176 million worldwide. Like Shooter, it also remains popular with audiences, holding an 80% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. For now, Wahlberg can count himself among the few actors with multiple films thriving on Paramount+’s charts at the same time.

Shooter is streaming now on Paramount+.
