Pokémon Legends Z-A was released in October, and it feels like it's been a nonstop runaway train ever since. Tons of fans shared their thoughts on the game's various Mega Evolution redesigns, and the launch of the core DLC expansion was moved up from April 2026 to December 2025.

However, ranked PVP play has struggled to attract players since its debut. In fact, Game Freak has dangled various Mega Evolution items in front of players as an incentive, though it doesn't always work. For Season 3 of ranked play, as revealed by the Pokémon blog, the rewards are at an all-time low.

Pokémon Legends Z-A Season 3 Rewards Are Underwhelming

You'll Net A Handful Of Basic Items

As Season 3 kicks off, you'll have a chance to earn a Chesnaughtite, which helps Chesnaught Mega Evolve in-game. Delphoxite and Greninjite will also be redistributed in Season 3, through Rank V and Rank Y, respectively. All the other rewards, however, leave a lot to be desired.

As a reminder, Season 3 runs from November 26, 10PM PST, through December 17, 5:59PM PST. It's a very short window, all things considered, if you really want that Chesnaughtite. Eligible Pokémon for Ranked Battles must be part of the Lumiose Pokédex, from entries 1001 to 231.

Pokémon Legends Z-A's DLC Can Still Wow Us

Despite how underwhelming Season 3 is, Pokémon Legends: Z‑A - Mega Dimension is still on the way. It's the game's first, and as far as we know, only expansion, which involves the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa and distortions around the city of Lumiose. While it doesn't seem to be drastically overhauling any aspect of the game (including ranked battles), it should be a nice excuse for fans to jump back in.

There is some pressure for Game Freak to deliver, though, as the overall quality of the expansion will color Pokémon Legends: Z-A's legacy going forward. While Pokémon Legends: Arceus didn't have an official follow-up expansion, it did get the Daybreak update, which added a ton of content, including endgame activities. For $30, Mega Dimension will at least have to meet, if not exceed, that bar.
