ABC continues winning with 9-1-1 since the show moved to the network three years ago. The fan-favorite procedural has consistently delivered ratings and viewership in its Thursday 8 p.m. ET time slot. However, many fans also watch the show on streaming services, especially Disney's platforms Disney+ and Hulu. Current streaming data from FlixPatrol shows that 9-1-1 is as popular on streaming as it is on broadcast, quickly climbing into the top five on both platforms. While there is intense competition, 9-1-1 continues to hold steady against streaming juggernauts like High Potential and Grey's Anatomy.

The series follows first responders of Station 113 in one of the busiest cities in the world, Los Angeles. The high-octane drama is a look at people who run in the opposite direction during life-threatening situations. 9-1-1 Season 9 is monumental for the show, as it marks the first time the station is without its respected captain, Bobby Nash (Peter Krause). The character died in Season 8 during a rescue after being infected with a toxic substance in a lab. Bobby's death was the first involving a main character in the show's entire run. The season deals with the aftermath of this tragedy, especially its impact on the lives of those who knew Bobby best, namely his wife and station members. Critics were impressed by how the show handled this loss, as evidenced by the season's perfect score on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

'9-1-1' Season 9 Will Return Next Year

The show — and its new spin-off 9-1-1: Nashville — are currently on break, with a January 8 midseason premiere date already set. The franchise returns without any changes, maintaining its regular time slot. Looking ahead, the teams behind both shows are working towards a crossover when the shows return next year. "We're in the works on a more muscular crossover, the scope of which will definitely involve some characters from the mothership coming in person," 9-1-1: Nashville showrunner Rashad Raisani confirmed in an interview.

"We're still figuring out literally [which characters are crossing over], as of today, if it's going to be a couple or if it's going to be many, and if it's going to be more of a personal adventure or a professional one. But we will do a more true crossover this season in the back half."

9-1-1 Season 9 stars Angela Bassett (Athena Grant-Nash), Kenneth Choi (Howard "Chimney" Han), Aisha Hinds (Henrietta "Hen" Wilson), Stark (Evan "Buck" Buckley), Jennifer Love Hewitt (Maddie Han), Ryan Guzman (Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz), Gavin McHugh (Christopher Diaz), and Anirudh Pisharody (Ravi Panikkar).

Stream the show on Hulu and Disney+, and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
