As Final Fantasy Remake Part 3 is being developed, other RPGs from 2025 might influence how the game plays compared to the previous iteration, FF7 Rebirth. The second game in the remake trilogy had many praised features, including its unique party-based character action combat. However, some mechanics from other acclaimed titles could influence how different Part 3 might be.
According to the site Gaming Bolt, the director of FF7 Remake Part 3 has spoken about how the game's vision has progressed in recent years. This creation process has no doubt been affected by criticisms of FF7 Remake and FF7 Rebirth's worst parts, causing adjustments to be made. As the director's comments continue, one big game from 2025 keeps coming up for Part 3's direction.
FF7 Remake Part 3 Director Wants It To Be More Like Clair Obscur
2025's Biggest RPG Has Left A Major Impact On The Remake Series
Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Grave.
The acclaim that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 received in 2025 was massive, easily making it the most praised RPG of the last few years. The tight, focused, and narratively rich experience of Clair Obscur drew natural complaints about the FF7 Remake series, which has often had its direction criticized in the past.
According to the comments from FF7 Remake Part 3's director, Naoki Hamaguchi, AA games like Clair Obscur "pick one aspect of one element and really push that..." By comparison, "The cost involved in creating AAA games really has risen so much," implying that the toned down scale of the GOTY front-runner for 2025 might not be as feasible for FF7 Remake's conclusion.
The variety of factors FF7 Remake Part 3 has to implement for its grand finale needs to include a far larger amount of content that Clair Obscur could create. Despite this restriction, Hamaguchi also states that he "would love to make a game like that [Clair Obscur], which is really focused on one area, pushing the boat out, and making that one aspect as fun as possible."
Tighter Areas Would Be An Improvement Over FF7 Rebirth's Map
More Focus On Interesting Exploration Might Make Locations Better
The party heads off for a new location in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3.
If FF7 Remake Part 3 was to take any inspiration from Clair Obscur, it would be best to adopt how the latter game handles area design. Locations that are smaller, but have more interesting things to discover are far better than huge locations with tons of blank spots. This not only reduces how long it takes to go from one end of a map to another, but gives players more to engage with within that shorter time.
Among the many rumors surrounding FF7 Remake Part 3, one confirmed feature for the sequel is the infamous "yellow paint," which helped distinguish important areas in large maps to direct players toward them.
As players return to Midgard for some of the final acts of the FF7 story in the remake, tighter areas could help make the city more engaging to explore. More side quests, collectibles, or character interactions restricted to smaller locations might bring far greater focus to what players do, instead of demanding they search the empty expanses that could get exhausting to visit in FF7 Rebirth.
Given Hamaguchi's position and the reality of the sequel's scope, it is unlikely that the game will have tighter areas in the future. That being said, any inspiration Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 takes from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will likely be healthy for the game, even if it is in small amounts.
