The New England Patriots' running back room could get a major boost with Rhamondre Stevenson targeting a return to action for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Patriots coach Mike Vrabel confirmed the news on Friday.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementStevenson was the starting running back before going down with a toe injury. He has racked up 83 carries for 279 yards and three touchdowns, along with 16 catches for 169 yards so far this season.
With Stevenson sidelined, rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson has stepped up in the starting role with Terrell Jennings serving as the No. 2 option. Henderson has had a tremendous run in such a short time. He racked up 147 rushing yards and two touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he had a three-touchdown game against the New York Jets.
Stevenson being back in the mix with Henderson should only mean good things for the Patriots' run game. Granted, the team will have to make a decision on a starter, but it's a good problem to have when a team has two capable starting running backs.
