Nov. 22—BISMARCK — The Jamestown High School volleyball team finished the 2025 season exactly how it wanted to.

On a win.

"Obviously, we were hoping — and planning — to finish higher than seventh but they found an extra gear today — something to play for," JHS head coach Sara Hegerle said. "They battled it out until the very end."

The Blue Jays defeated West Fargo Horace 25-21, 18-25, 25-22, 27-25 on Saturday in the seventh-place match of the 2025 NDHSAA Class AA State Volleyball Tournament. The Blue Jays finished the season at 13-5 in conference play and 22-14 overall.

On Saturday, Lucy Falk was back to double-digits at the net.

The junior outside had 27 kills, two aces, and a crucial dig in the fourth set to save a Jamestown point for a one-point advantage.

Claire Marker ended her junior season with a 14-kill performance while Amelia Newman chipped in nine and an ace. Jamestown smashed 51 kills and had just 10 attack errors. Mari Anderson, one of four seniors playing in their final matches as Blue Jays, ended her prep career with five blocks.

Horace recorded 54 kills — 25 of which were by way of Kendall Mueller — but were plagued by errors, tallying 27.

In the opening set, Jamestown was down by four points three times and trailed 12-10 before Falk and Marker put down seven kills en route to a 10-2 run and 20-14 lead. Marker's next kill gave the Jays a 23-19 lead. Horace came within two, but back-to-back attack errors ended the set.

Horace served six aces on their way to a second-set win, including three by Jersie Duberowski in a 5-0 run for a 24-17 lead.

The Blue Jays were down 17-16 in the third when their attack led them through. After an ace by Attleson, Newman killed twice, Marker once, and Falk did so three times. Falk scored the set-winning point.

Horace led 10-5 in the final set, but Newman had two kills in a 7-1 run that put the Jays back in front 12-11. Several points later, the Hawks regained the lead and were up 18-16 when the Jays rallied. A kill by Marker, a block by Hannah Attleson and a kill by Newman spurred a 5-0 Jamestown stint and a 21-18 lead.

Horace scored four out of the next five points to tie things up at 22 but Falk came up with her pivotal dig which led to a Marker kill. Falk set the Jays up for match point with another big-time kill. The Hawks had a Mueller kill for 24-24, then again for 25-25 but Falk ended the match with two straight kills.

"This season will be one I'll never forget," Hegerle said. "It is awesome being a part of a team that feels like family."
