No. 9 Notre Dame was able to insert its backups early in the second half against the Syracuse Orange, and that includes backup quarterback Kenny Minchey.

Those who follow the Fighting Irish closely have no doubt heard that Minchey made this spring's quarterback competition with CJ Carr close, in part because of his running ability. While Carr ultimately won the starting job, Minchey reminded viewers that he can run with Notre Dame's final touchdown against the Orange.

The Fighting Irish were likely trying to set up for a field goal, both to avoid piling on too many points but also to give placekicker Erik Schmidt, who's struggled with field goals, some confidence. The play call was a quarterback draw, but Notre Dame's blocking was very good and opened up the field for Minchey to scamper to the end zone.

It was a 25-yard run that capped off a 7-play, 39-yard drive that took 4:14 off the clock and got Notre Dame to 70 points for the first time since 1932.
