Nov. 22—Assessing the Alabama Crimson Tide — on a pass/fail basis — for its 56-0 win over the lower-division Eastern Illinois Panthers on Saturday:
Offense — P: The Crimson Tide totaled 539 yards with 269 on the ground, though its leading rusher, Jam Miller, had just 62 yards. In all, 13 Alabama players ran the ball with 10 reaching double-figure yardage.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementDefense — P++: Holding anyone to 34 yards offense is a feat, even if it was against an FCS team. Saturday gave reason to why these affairs are referred to as cupcake games or, even more gloomily, bodybag games.
Special teams — F: Missing these field goals won't go over well such as Conor Talty missing a 28-yarder in the first quarter. Heck, Alabama's punter failed to even register 1 yard. Egads.
Coaching — P: Alabama paid $560,000 for this yawner. Maybe the Panthers will put it to good use.
Overall — P: FYI, if you haven't heard, the annual apocalypse known as the Iron Bowl is next week. And it's at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
