Best known for his work creating Breaking Bad and the subsequent offshoot Better Call Saul, Vince Gilligan has returned to the world of sci-fi with a new show that’s taking over streaming charts. Gilligan’s most recent creation comes in the form of Pluribus, the sci-fi series starring Rhea Seehorn that’s set in a world overtaken by a mysterious wave of happiness. The one person who is immune to it all is Carol Sturka, who takes it upon herself to figure out what’s really going on and save the world from bliss. Pluribus is the most popular show on Apple TV right now globally, charting at #1 in more than 20 countries.
It’s still early, but Pluribus has been a massive hit for Apple TV thus far, and not just because it’s sitting atop the streaming charts. The show currently sits at a nearly perfect 99% from critics on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the highest-rated shows of the year. The audience score is at 79% right now, but this is from a minuscule sample size of reviews. There’s still plenty of story left to tell in Pluribus, so only time will reveal how the show will ultimately be received. If Gilligan’s previous body of work is any example, Apple will be just fine.
Apple TV didn't have to spend too much on marketing either, thanks to Vince Gilligan. Simply having his name attached to the show is enough to get people to tune in. Breaking Bad is widely viewed as one of the best TV shows of all time, standing tall with other titans like The Sopranos, The Wire, and Succession. Gilligan’s name carries weight in the TV world.
When Do New Episodes of ‘Pluribus’ Come Out?
New episodes of Pluribus come out every Friday on Apple TV. They usually release at 3 am EST, but they sometimes premiere a bit early. Pluribus has already been renewed for a second season, which shows that Apple had tremendous faith in the show to perform, and it’s delivering. It’s hard to predict right now what the plot will look like for the second season of Pluribus, but star Rhea Seehorn will surely be back in Season 2. With Gilligan back at the helm, fans are likely in store for another great season of sci-fi on Apple TV.
Catch the first few episodes of Pluribus on Apple TV now, and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
