After years of free updates and options for replayability, Stardew Valley has come a long way since its humble origins back in 2016, but that doesn't mean there aren't still areas for improvement. Expanding the limited dialogue options after romancing one of Stardew Valley's bachelors would be an easy choice, and one of the very first romantic moments you'll have with your virtual partner is easily the worst out of the bunch.
As pointed out by Reddit user erxnnholland, the very first Stardew Valley event, the Flower Dance, is easily "the worst festival in the game", offering little reason to attend unless you're immersed in role-playing. This isn't the first time the complaint has been brought up, with countless other players slamming the Flower Dance as a disappointing venture that often isn't worth the effort to revisit, aside from some extra heart points.
The Flower Dance Is Easily The Worst Stardew Valley Event
Even if the abrasive personality of Stardew Valley's villagers is one of its greatest selling points for creating more lifelike characters, it's hard to get over the initial rejection of getting brutally rejected by your virtual crush in the first year.
While it's entirely possible to get enough hearts with certain characters, like Haley, thanks to her early birthday and love of easily accessible dandelions, you'll still stick out like a sore thumb when it comes to the dance itself.
The player character is the only one not wearing seasonal attire and doing the Flower Dance itself completely wrong, masking it's easy to see why players like boilyourdentist feel "embarrassed" for their farmers. Even outside of the embarrassment, there's very little to actually do in Stardew Valley's Flower Festival itself, especially after you've already purchased its limited stock of seasonal items.
One Simple Change Drastically Improves The Flower Dance
Although Stardew Valley has received an impressive number of updates over the years, one of the primary defenses as to why the farmer stands out so much is how difficult it would be to fit their catalog of clothing and body shapes into the dance itself. Fortunately, this problem could be easily solved thanks to one simple adjustment.
Rather than having the dance be a simple cutscene with whatever you're wearing, other players have suggested that Stardew Valley could have added a way to learn the dance itself, either with repeated visits or skill books. Interactions with other NPCs could have also solved this issue entirely, especially with Emily already making the farmer a dress for the Desert Fair and similar outfits existing in Stardew Valley itself.
While simple outfit-changing mods help mitigate these issues by letting you easily swap into a similar outfit as the rest of Stardew Valley's villagers, it's still a far cry from the potential that the spring event could have had. For now, you'll have to rely on modders, like kelly2892 on Nexus, who offer their own modified version of the Flower Dance itself to fix these Stardew Valley issues.
