The world of Warhammer games is full of interesting experiences, and one of the best is now free to keep for a limited time. While games set in the typical Warhammer 40K setting make up the bulk of releases, games connected to the franchise have also ventured into Warhammer Fantasy. Chief among those are the Vermintide titles, which dive into a rodent-heavy apocalypse of the End Times.
Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is now free to keep on Steam for anyone who adds it to their library this weekend. When logged into a Steam account, clicking the green button to add it to your library will be sufficient to claim the title — you don't actually need to download it until you feel like it. The promotion ends at 10 AM PT/1 PM ET on November 24.
Warhammer: Vermintide 2 Is A Great Co-Op Game
Stave Off The Hordes
Like its predecessor, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a co-op horde game, similar to hits like Left 4 Dead 2 and Back 4 Blood. Thanks to the fantasy setting, there's more of a focus on melee options than in typical horde shooters, but some of Vermintide 2's class options can still make use of guns, bows, and ranged magical attacks.
If you're planning on picking Vermintide 2 up while it's free, you'd benefit from clueing in a few friends, as the game is centered around four-player squads. You can still queue up with random players online, though, so having an army at the ready isn't strictly necessary. You can also play solo alongside bots, although you won't be able to enjoy the game's team-oriented strategy in quite the same way as with other players.
There's No Reason To Ignore A Free Warhammer Game
You Have Nothing To Lose
Warhammer: Vermintide 2 also added a new mode a week ago, introducing Versus as a fresh PvP alternative to the typical PvE action. This sticks to teams of four, but divides them into Heroes and Pactsworn, pitting them against each other instead of the endless hordes.
Those who prefer the 40K setting might be more interested in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, a Vermintide follow-up that jumps to the city of Tertium. Right now, though, Darktide will run you $39.99 on Steam, so a free copy of Vermintide 2 is definitely the better deal.
Either way, there's no harm in adding Warhammer: Vermintide 2 to your Steam library. Even if you're not interested in Warhammer, Vermintide 2 is a fun action game in its own right. As a zero-dollar investment, it's hard to go wrong.
