Leaning on USC’s defense right now would be a shaky call, and the fact that Oregon is a double-digit favorite says as much.

Expect fireworks in Eugene, where both offenses should have their way. We dig into all the angles in our best bets and USC vs. Oregon predictions for Saturday, November 22.

If you find this spread north of +10, then taking USC makes plenty of sense. The Trojans have one of the most explosive passing attacks in the country, and if they are down even three scores late, they could still cover +10.5 in the closing minutes.

But the best approach may be to wait to live bet this game. If Oregon gets out to a 7-0 lead, the subsequent inflated spread would be a touch misguided, given the expected back-and-forth nature of this matchup.

The USC Trojans offense has played well all season, typical of a Lincoln Riley roster. The Trojans’ defense, however, received faint praise to start the year and has since dishonored that praise, faltering against both Northwestern and Iowa in recent weeks.

USC won those games, and on paper giving up 17 points to Northwestern and then 21 to Iowa is palatable, but both of those defensive showings were in the bottom 40 percent of expectations, per CFB-graphs.com, particularly woeful against the run.

In fact, USC’s rush defense has been a liability in five of eight games against FBS opponents, only genuinely excelling against Illinois even if that became a loss.

A struggling rush defense is a cause for concern against the best rushing attack in the country, in terms of expected points added per rush attempt. But the good news for the Trojans and Lincoln Riley is that the Oregon Ducks defense has also fallen off a bit lately, slight defensive letdowns at Iowa and against Minnesota.

Slight letdowns are all a Riley offense should need.

This could turn into a shootout. Do not be surprised if the second half entices the thought that whoever has the ball last will win what could be a Playoff play-in game.

We’ve got a Pac-12 Memorial Game with College Football Playoff implications this weekend when the USC Trojans visit the Oregon Ducks.

A spot in the College Football Playoff will be a near certainty if Dan Lanning and the 9-1 Ducks can pull off a win against one of their oldest rivals. But Lincoln Riley and USC have their own plans. At 8-2 and ranked 15th, an upset over Oregon could shake up the CFP rankings.

While the Trojans have an explosive offense led by QB Jayden Maiava, the Ducks are a bad matchup for them.

Not only does Oregon have an elite pass defense, it has arguably the best running game in the country. The trio of Noah Whittingham, Dierre Hill Jr, and Jordon Davison have looked unstoppable.

Together, they lead the nation in EPA per rush and success rate on rushes, and now they go against one of the worst rush defenses in the country. USC ranks 122nd in defensive success vs. the rush and 76th in EPA per rush.

That has me looking at rushing props for Davison. The freshman who is built like a truck has seen his role increase of late. He has rumbled for 370 yards at 8.6 yards per carry over the last five games.

Fading this USC run defense has been profitable the last several weeks, and that won’t change this week. Take Davison to go for 60+ rushing yards at plus money.
