Xabi Alonso confirms positive Real Madrid injury news

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has this weekend confirmed some altogether welcome positive news on the personnel front in his squad.

This comes amid confirmation that Antonio Rüdiger is on the verge of a return to the pitch.

Stopper Rüdiger has for his part been sidelined for the last two-and-a-half months, owing to a serious muscular injury.

Though Real Madrid’s backline have performed admirably in his absence, the former Chelsea man’s leadership qualities have at times been sorely missed.

All of a Blancos persuasion will in turn no doubt be delighted to learn of the latest news on Rüdiger’s wellbeing.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, on the eve of his side’s La Liga return against Elche, Xabi Alonso was asked for an update on his defensive stalwart.

And the Spanish tactician went on to confirm:

“Antonio Rüdiger will not be available tomorrow, but he will be back soon. His performance and personality make him a valuable addition to the team.”
