The Carolina Panthers won't have their starting center for Monday night's matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Cade Mays, who popped up on Friday's injury report with ankle injury, is not expected to play here in Week 12.

Head coach Dave Canales explained Mays' outlook following Friday's practice.

"Finished practice and just wasn't quite feeling right," Canales said of Mays' outing on Thursday. "When we looked back at it—afterwards, the film—you can see where he was starting to get a little bit tender and sensitive on the ankle. So we evaluated him afterwards and today, didn't feel like we could get him turned around—so we shut him down. We shut him down for this week."

Canales added that Austin Corbett will get the start at center in place of Mays.

Corbett has started three games at center this season. His last nod came in the Week 9 win over the Green Bay Packers—where he, according to Pro Football Focus, allowed zero pressures over 24 pass-blocking opportunities.
