The Half-Life 3 hype train has been moving at full speed again, and a recent Game Awards tease has sparked even more discussions. With the possible reveal dates of November 18 and 19 having come and gone, The Game Awards are looking like the next viable spot for a reveal. However, the newest reason for hype seems to have already fizzled out.
The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious TGA image on X yesterday, depicting a platform with a floating ball of energy flanked by Game Awards statues. Comments were quick to call out its resemblance to Half-Life imagery, specifically the machinery at the center of the Resonance Cascade event. Keighley followed up the post with a link to vote for The Game Awards in Fortnite, revealing the source of the depicted imagery.
Will Half-Life 3 Be At The Game Awards?
It's Not Impossible
The Game Awards
At this point, it's anyone's guess whether Half-Life 3 will make an appearance at The Game Awards. On one hand, there's good reason to believe the game is actually nearing a reveal, and The Game Awards would be the most viable venue before the year's end. On the other hand, it's Half-Life 3, and counting on anything seems like a good way to end up disappointed.
At any rate, Keighley's Game Awards imagery doesn't seem to qualify as evidence of an impending reveal. It's not surprising that Half-Life fans mentally linked it to the Resonance Cascade, but it seems unlikely that The Game Awards would be deploying a Half-Life 3 tease inside of Fortnite. Valve and Fortnite publisher Epic Games have rival PC game storefronts, and despite its long list of collaborations, Fortnite has never crossed over with Valve franchises.
Excitement For The Rumored Sequel Is Building
Nothing Can Quell The Hype
If the Half-Life hype around Keighley's Game Awards tease proves anything, it's that people are once again clamoring for Half-Life 3 at full volume. Over the years, the continual absence of a reveal had slowly turned calls for a release into more of a running joke than a sincere proposition. Now that Hollow Knight: Silksong is out and rumors seem to indicate the actual existence of Half-Life 3, more people are returning to Half-Life 3 speculation as a pastime.
Unless Valve decides on a surprise drop before then, we'll find out the truth on December 11, so there isn't long to wait. In the likely event that Half-Life 3 isn't revealed at The Game Awards, I pity the "one more thing" game that takes its place. For better or worse, Half-Life 3 has worked its way back into dominating the buzz.
