The quartet of fighting turtle brothers — Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael — have been key figures in pop culture for decades. Hollywood has long recognized the appeal of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, churning out a live-action trilogy in the 1990s, an animated film in 2007, two more live-action films in the 2010s, and a fresh animated feature in 2023.
The ninja-trained vigilantes known for loving pizza and cracking jokes just as much as they are for beating bad guys remain hot commodities. Paramount owns the rights to TMNT, and with so many different interpretations of the characters in the comics that are worthy of big-screen adaptations, the studio has remained vigilant about developing new films.
Rather than focus on a singular title, Paramount has a few different Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies in development. Here's what we know about each of them, ranging from who is involved to when they will come out.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2

Paramount is developing a sequel to 2023's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. The film, currently titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2, is set for release on September 17, 2027, following a delay from 2026.
Jeff Rowe is returning to direct the follow-up, with Kyler Spears and Yashar Kassai joining him as co-directors. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are producing once more through Point Grey, with James Weaver, Josh Fagen, and Ramsay McBean also on the producing team.
Picking up after TMNT: Mutant Mayhem's ending, the sequel will bring the brothers back as they face off with Shredder, following his post-credits tease in the prior installment.
No voice actor has been announced for Shredder, but the main ensemble of Micah Abbey as Donatello, Shamon Brown Jr. as Michelangelo, Nicolas Cantu as Leonardo, Brady Noon as Raphael, Jackie Chan as Splinter, and Ayo Edebiri as April O'Neil should all return. Other familiar characters may also be back.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Live-Action Reboot

There is also a new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie in development at Paramount. Announced on November 20, 2025, the studio has brought Neil H. Moritz aboard to produce the reboot following his success with the Fast & Furious and Sonic the Hedgehog franchises.
Details on this installment are slim at the moment. Paramount wants to "Sonic-fy" the TMNT franchise, ensuring it appeals to all audiences. This likely means a similar live-action/CGI hybrid concept with an action/comedy PG tone.
The early stage of this development project leaves the TMNT reboot without any writer or director. There are also no cast members attached to play any of the four turtles, much less Splinter, Shredder, April, or any other characters who could be brought into the fresh story.
Paramount has not currently given the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie a release date due to how new the project is. It'll only be after some of the creative team comes together and development moves further along that a release window becomes known.
If the development process takes a year or two, and then it takes another year or two to film and complete post-production, this film might not be ready to come out until 2028 or later, unless things are fast-tracked.
TMNT: The Last Ronin

Paramount has also been working on a very different Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. In 2024, it was announced that a live-action adaptation of The Last Ronin was in the works.
Based on the 2020-2022 graphic novel by Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, and Tom Waltz, the five-issue comic is set in an alternate future where Michelango is the sole surviving member of the team after everyone else died at the hands of the Foot Clan. Mikey sets off on a mission to kill Shredder's grandson to get revenge.
The comic earned acclaim upon its release, so it only made sense that Paramount eyed a live-action version at some point. The Last Ronin figured to be an R-rated adaptation with Tyler Burton Smith (Boy Kills World) writing the script and Walter Hamada attached as a producer. The studio was even in talks with Ilya Naishuller (Nobody) to direct the feature in early 2025.
While the creative team was coming into place, The Last Ronin's movie is now on the backburner. Paramount/Skydance pulled the plug on the project to prioritize a more family-friendly live-action film, rather than do something that's more violent and adult-oriented.
Reportedly, Paramount "wants to leave the door open to possibly revisit it down the road," meaning this project could still come to fruition at some point. It just won't be happening anytime soon as Moritz's reboot becomes the key release to determine the franchise's future.
Should that film do well and revitalize the property on the big screen, The Last Ronin could re-enter development down the road. The film could then enter the landscape as a way to show a completely new side of the world without the weight of needing to carry the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brand overall.
