One of the greatest pieces of sci-fi television ever created has stumbled back onto streaming charts ahead of the premiere of its new season. 2024 brought on many great new TV shows, but perhaps none have had as much impact as Fallout. The video game adaptation was instantly beloved upon its premiere, earning nearly perfect scores of 93% from critics and audiences, along with a swift Season 2 renewal. Fallout Season 2 has already been set for release on December 17, but before its arrival, the show has returned to the Prime Video global top 10, sitting at #10 at the time of writing.
Starring in the lead role of Lucy MacLean in Fallout is Ella Purnell. Lucy is a vault-dweller who ventures into the wasteland for the first time, where she meets Maximus (Aaron Moten) and The Ghoul (Walton Goggins). Lucy spends time with both Maximus and The Ghoul in Season 1. Maximus is a member of the Brotherhood of Steel who has the tools to survive the wasteland, but not the wits. At several hundred years old, The Ghoul has everything you need to make it in the post-apocalyptic nightmare, and he’s ready to teach Lucy everything he knows in Season 2.
Fallout creators Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet made the smart choice to have the show be an original story set in the same world as the beloved game franchise. This avoids fans comparing the show to the games and instead allows creatives to utilize all the tools of the world, but not be hindered by its shackles. Fallout Season 2 will feature more game references, such as the arrival of New Vegas, but it will continue to tell an original narrative, not an existing one.
Is ‘Fallout’ Season 2 Another Binge Release?
Ahead of the Fallout Season 1 premiere last year, Prime Video announced that it was shifting from a weekly to binge release for Fallout. The show was such a success that Prime Video has shifted back to a weekly model for Fallout Season 2. The first episode of Fallout Season 2 will air on December 17, and subsequent new episodes will premiere every Wednesday until the Season 2 finale on February 4. Prime Video has yet to announce a release date for the already-confirmed Fallout Season 3.
