After his meeting with Ole Miss's athletic director and chancellor, the statement that the school dropped indicated that we'd hear Kiffin's decision on whether he was staying or going elsewhere after the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State next week. For many fans, that meant he was probably out (otherwise, wouldn't they announce he was staying now? Hmmm!). But we'll see.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementMeanwhile, there was this report from Yahoo's Ross Dellenger: "While specific details of the contract remain fluid, sources told Yahoo Sports that school executives have discussed a seven-year, incentive-laden deal worth at least $90 million — figures that would make Kiffin, at the very least, tied for the highest-paid coach in the sport. The school is, as well, promising significant NIL-related roster investments exceeding $25 million — perhaps the most important determining factor for the coach."
Wow. We'll see if that moves the needle for the very in demand coach.
How much does Lane Kiffin making at Ole Miss?
From USA TODAY Sports:
Kiffin is under contract through Dec. 31, 2029, under the terms of a six-year extension signed in 2022. That agreement was automatically extended by one year on Dec. 8, 2023. From 2025 onward, Kiffin is due $9 million in base pay annually. In 2024, he'll receive $8.85 million and a retention bonus of $150,000 if he remains in charge of the Rebels on Dec. 31, 2024.

AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementBecause it is Ole Miss' seventh regular season win, Kiffin's state contract with the Ole Miss Athletic Foundation will be automatically extended one year on Jan. 1, 2026. Kiffin's contract now runs through Dec. 31, 2031.
The added year will be worth $9 million with $7.2 million guaranteed.
Why could Lane Kiffin leave Ole Miss?
It's complicated. He has brought a lot of success to the Rebels this year. Maybe it's the huge contract offer he might be getting from LSU. Maybe he thinks he can win more elsewhere long-term? We'll see if he has anything to say about that if he actually leaves.
