A week ago, Austin Vandegrift appeared to be one-and-done in the playoffs on the heels of winning a state title the year before.

However, the Vipers were able to survive another week after making a field goal with no time left to defeat Austin Westlake in the University Interscholastic League 6A Division II bi-district round.

Now, Vandegrift attempts to make it through another week, as the Vipers face San Antonio Brandeis in the area round, which takes place Thursday night in San Marcos.

Vandegrift, with the win last week, moves to 9-2 on the season.

As for Brandeis, the Broncos enter Thursday’s postseason game at 8-3, but have won six of their last seven contests. In their playoff opener last week, they also had to survive and advance, edging fellow San Antonio school Sotomayor, 35-32.

THIRD QUARTER

- We are in another lightning delay late in the third quarter.

HALFTIME

- After Brandeis scored on the game's first possession, it's been all Vandegrift, scoring 27 unanswered points. Vipers also getting a couple of big plays on special teams that resulted in touchdowns.

SECOND QUARTER

- TOUCHDOWN VANDEGRIFT. Vipers score with 15 seconds left until halftime, getting a pass caught in the end zone. (Vandegrift, 27-7 | :15, 2nd)

- Vandegrift seeking to score again after pinning Brandeis deep in its own territory, forcing a punt and getting a long punt return down to the Broncos' 10 with less than a minute to go in the half.

- Brandeis drives past midfield, but is stopped on a fourth-and-short play and Vandegrift takes over.

- TOUCHDOWN VANDEGRIFT. Wow, what a turn of events in San Marcos. Vipers forced a punt, but there was a bad snap on the play, and it's recovered in the end zone by a Vandegrift player for another TD. Twenty unanswered points for the Vipers. (Vandegrift, 20-7 | 8:04, 2nd) 

- TOUCHDOWN VANDEGRIFT. Vipers pick off a pass and run it back inside the 10, where they punch it in on the next play and Vandegrift has its first lead on the night. (Vandegrift, 13-7 | 9:37, 2nd) 

FIRST QUARTER

- TOUCHDOWN VANDEGRIFT. Vipers respond on their opening series, driving 64 yards, all on the ground, ending with Evan Williamson's 22-yard jaunt into the end zone. However, the PAT hits the upright, keeping Brandeis in front. (Brandeis, 7-6 | 3:17, 1st)

- TOUCHDOWN BRANDEIS. Broncos take the opening kickoff following the hour-long delay and take more than six minutes off the clock, finishing with a short run into the end zone from Wynter Smith. (Brandeis, 7-0 | 5:58, 1st)
