Oakland magic?
It would seem so.
Donte Cameron's 78-yard touchdown run with 4:13 left in the game gave Oakland its first lead as the Patriots survived a scare, rallying from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to knock off Green Hill 21-17 in Class 6A quarterfinals of the TSSAA football playoffs on Nov. 21.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe Patriots were in danger of snapping its state semifinal streak. Oakland (13-0) has been to every state semifinal game in 6A since 2014. It's played in the previous five 6A championship games and six title games in the past seven years.
Green Hill (10-3) played in its second quarterfinal game in program history but its season ends with its nine-game win streak snapped.
Oakland will host Region 3-6A rival Blackman in the state semifinal at 7 p.m. on Nov. 28. The Blaze (12-1) stunned Maryville and will get a second shot at the Patriots after losing the regular-season matchup to Oakland, 32-0 on Sept. 26.
Green Hill's 19-yard field goal with 9:46 left in the fourth quarter extended its lead to 17-7 before Oakland made its comeback. Craig Tutt's 22-yard touchdown with 6:15 left cut Green Hill's lead to 17-14 before Cameron's game-winning touchdown.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementCameron ran for 157 yards and two TDs. Tutt added 92 yards rushing on 15 carries with a TD. Oakland finished with only 57 total yards passing.
Green Hill quarterback Kannon Burroughs was 12-of-20 passing for 165 yards and a touchdown. Zach Cartwright had 79 yards rushing and a touchdown.
