After the latest news about Rush Hour 4, fans began flocking to the previous installments. Now, the first three Rush Hour films of this popular buddy-cop comedy starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker have surged on the streaming charts as viewers revisit what made Rush Hour worth watching again, decades after its initial release.

Rush Hour 1–3 have placed #5th to #7th on Pluto's Top 10 charts in the United States on December 2, 2025, sitting between Just Go With It and The Twilight Saga: New Moon. The Rush Hour films focus on an unlikely partnership between LA detective James Carter (Tucker) and Hong Kong inspector Lee (Chan). Aside from the slapstick humor, martial arts, and comedic dialogue, Rush Hour follows the fish-out-of-water trope as Carter and Lee face unfamiliar environments, a language barrier, and cultural clashes that heighten the tension on their mission.

The first Rush Hour film premiered on September 18, 1998, and since its release, it has been praised by fans and critics alike, earning a 62% critics score and a 79% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and grossing over $244 million at the box office. Its sequel was released three years later, and while it received mixed reviews from fans and critics, it's the highest-grossing film in the franchise, earning over $347 million worldwide. In 2007, the final installment, Rush Hour 3, was released and was poorly received by critics, earning a 17% critics' score. However, audiences gave it a fair reception, with a 63% audience score, and it has earned $258 million at the box office.

What Do We Know About 'Rush Hour 4'?

18 years after Rush Hour 3, it was announced that Rush Hour 4 was moving forward, with Paramount in charge of distribution. The reported reason this film franchise is coming back: Donald Trump. It was reported that the U.S. president "personally pressed the Ellison family to bring the franchise back," which has stirred some controversy amongst the fanbase and the entertainment industry. As of writing, it's unknown how far into pre-production the fourth installment is and whether Chan and Tucker will be reprising their roles. However, both Tucker and Chan has expressed interest in returning.

So far, the only name attached to the project is Brett Ratner, who directed the original Rush Hour trilogy. His other projects include X-Men: The Last Stand, 2014's Hercules, and Tower Heist, among others. Plans for a fourth Rush Hour film were discussed during an audio commentary on Rush Hour 3's DVD, where the Ratner and Rush Hour writer Jeff Nathanson joked that a Rush Hour 4 could come out in 2012 andtake place in Moscow. However, the project never came to fruition, as, according to an old interview with Vulture, the film would have been too expensive to make.

The Rush Hour trilogy is available to stream on Pluto. Meanwhile, Rush Hour 4 has no official release date. Follow Collider to stay up to date with the latest updates.
