Skyrim overhaul mod Skyblivion has been 13 years in the making, and the latest update confirms that the wait isn't over yet. As its name would suggest, Skyblivion reconstructs Oblivion within Skyrim's engine, a massive undertaking meant to upgrade the game with better graphics and various improvements. Bethesda's surprise release of Oblivion Remastered ended up beating it to the punch, but the project could still have a lot to offer.

Skyblivion announced a delay to 2026 in a YouTube video, which establishes that "some last challenges" are going to take more time than anticipated. Previously, Skyblivion was set for a 2025 release. The Imperial City remains unfinished, although assets are expected to be completed before the end of the year, and other aspects like quests and navmeshes still require some work.

Skyblivion Has Big Plans For 2026 After Delay

While its planned 2026 release should provide a big finale to well over a decade of development, Skyblivion is already planning to add some post-launch content. Bug fixes will be the biggest priority, but the following features are also included in a post-launch roadmap:

• Spellcrafting
• UI reskin
• Dynamic dungeons
• Grave robbing
• Creature variety
• More followers
• More unique items
• More spells
• Oblivion DLCs

Spellcrafting is one feature that was initially planned for Skyblivion's release, as the mechanic was a major part of Oblivion to begin with. Unfortunately, the system implemented for Skyblivion broke after continued development, so re-implementing it will be a major effort. Skyrim features no spellcrafting system, meaning there isn't much of a basis to work off of.

With the goal of simply getting the mod out the door, some other functions have embraced similar compromises. The UI is hewing much closer to Skyrim than originally planned, for example, but revising it later on is part of the future roadmap.

Skyblivion Is Still An Exciting Project

There's always a chance that Skyblivion could suffer further delays, but it does seem like the project is finally nearing completion. It's an incredibly impressive undertaking, and it doesn't seem to have been rendered obsolete by Oblivion Remastered. The changes made in Skyblivion are more substantial, and the art style arguably remains more evocative than Oblivion Remastered's Unreal Engine 5 sheen.

The Skyblivion team is attempting to wrap up development on several remaining core features by Q1 2026, and playtesting is planned before the final release. Based on the timeline presented here, it doesn't sound like the Skyrim overhaul mod will be dropping in the first few months of 2026. If everything goes smoothly, however, it might not be all that much longer.
