Netflix has a new crime thriller on their hands, this time starring Joel Edgerton. The streamer has had some very successful crime series in the past, both in terms of viewership and awards. Last year, for instance, they released the spy-based crime thriller Black Doves, which was met with positive reviews and strong viewership.

The miniseries Adolescence particularly took the world by storm earlier this year. It's huge hit status translated to multiple Emmy wins in the miniseries category. Other successful Netflix crime series have included You, Narcos, and Money Heist.

As reported by Deadline, Netflix has now set one of its next crime series with Trigger Point. The streamer won the series, which stars Edgerton, following a bidding war. The series comes from A24 and producer Joe Hipps. It has been picked up for eight episodes.

Other key creative staff include Jeremy Saulnier as director and Heads of State's Harrison Query as the writer and creator. Query will also serve as the showrunner. Saulnier will executive produce with Patrick McDonald and Katie Giarla. The package went to Netflix after a heated battle between them and Apple TV.

Plot-wise, Trigger Point will trace a group of Tier One Special Forces Operators who end up using their skills to work for a private military contracting firm. Edgerton plays Red, one of those Tier One Special Ops turned criminals. Red leads his group as the FBI chases after them.

While Edgerton is mainly known for his film roles, he has made some notable forays into television. This includes the Apple TV series Dark Matter, a sci-fi series whose first season was released last year. This will be a good chance for Edgerton to work with Netflix in the TV realm.

Trigger Point is also a great opportunity for Netflix as it is a chance for them to work with A24. This is not a first for Netflix; A24 produced, for example, the Netflix-distributed series Beef, which did very well when it came out.

Nonetheless, A24 has developed an incredibly positive reputation among audiences and critics alike over the last few years. Their household name status is mainly attributable to their wacky horror films such as Hereditary, Bring Her Back, and Death of a Unicorn, but they have made significant contributions to television as well (e.g. Euphoria).

These connections make Trigger Point a promising pick for Netflix. Between the solid team and Netflix's own success in the crime genre, this series could end up being a big hit under the right conditions.
