By Julio Cesar Valdera MoralesShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberTommy Fleetwood has capped a dream 2025 season by climbing to a career-best No. 3 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), thanks to a string of standout performances across both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.
Tommy Fleetwood’s Breakthrough Year
The 34-year-old Englishman, long regarded as one of golf’s most consistent players, finally translated consistency into marquee victories and high finishes that vaulted him into the sport’s elite tier. His season was highlighted by:
- Victory at the Tour Championship (August 2025): Fleetwood clinched the prestigious season finale for his maiden PGA Tour title. He outlasted Russell Henley and Patrick Cantlay, earning one of the biggest points hauls of the year.
- Win at the DP World India Championship (October 2025): His triumph on the DP World Tour demonstrated his ability to win on the international stage.
- Top finishes in majors and elite events: Fleetwood posted a T5 at The Genesis Invitational, T11 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T14 at The Players Championship, T16 at The Open Championship, and T21 at The Masters.
- Consistent form: Eight top-five finishes on both sides of the Atlantic, including two runner-up finishes, kept his points average high, ensuring steady upward movement in the rankings.
...Career-Best Ranking
Fleetwood’s surge has pushed him past rivals like Henley and Xander Schauffele, placing him behind only Scottie Scheffler (No. 1) and Rory McIlroy (No. 2) in the global standings. His average points now exceed 5.8, marking the highest of his career.
A Defining Moment
Although it has no direct impact on the world rankings, there is no doubt that the Ryder Cup title was a highlight of Fleetwood's season. The Englishman was the best player on the European side, with four points in five matches, surpassing McIlroy and Tyrrell Hatton, who each won 3.5 points.
This was Fleetwood's third title in four Ryder Cup appearances, a winning ratio that appears to be difficult to match.
