The Texas A&M Aggies held off several runs by the Pittsburgh Panthers to secure their fifth straight victory and back-to-back Power 4 wins. The 81-73 triumph raised their win total to seven through the first few weeks of the season, and they continue to show improvement.
It was a clash of contrasts, with Pitt being a younger team that plays at a slower pace against a veteran squad that tries to wear you down. When it came down to it, the Aggies maintained their composure in the closing minutes, and that played a significant role in sealing the win by knocking down crucial free throws.
"Yeah, it was. I mean, 20 to 22 from the free throw line, 16 to 17 in the second half. Yeah, that's big time. And you know, again, we got to the line more than our opponent. And that's what we want to do."
The defense and chemistry looked really strong in this game. Head coach Bucky McMillan emphasized that they are still working to implement adjustments, and it appears to be coming together.
"We've always been a team that plays about 33% zone and every team I've coached we've had our multiple zones in for before the started. We don't we didn't have our zone in the last game. So, this is this important because we can do that and it can break a team's rhythm."
