Green 59, Manchester 29
In a dominating 20-20 effort by Abbie Knapp along with double-figure outings by Elizabeth McBee and Laney Strickland, the Green Bobcats’ girls basketball program was able to claim a convincing nonconference victory over the Manchester Greyhounds’ girls basketball program, posting a 59-29 victory to move to 2-1 on the season in its home opener, which was held at Green High School in Franklin Furnace.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementKnapp, who scored 14 of what ultimately ended up being her 25 total tallies in the first half of competition, finished with 25 points, 22 rebounds, seven assists and three steals while McBee followed with 17 points, six rebounds and five assists. Strickland ultimately combined with Knapp to tally 38 points, 32 rebounds and 11 assists for the game — by adding a 13-point, 10-rebound, four-assist statline.
Ava Abrams and Destiny Alexander each combined for the remaining four points for Green.
The Lady ‘Cats will host Western (0-3) Thursday evening.

Clay 53, Manchester 24
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementIn another successful showing by an SOC I program against the Manchester Greyhounds’ girls basketball program, the Clay Panthers’ girls basketball program again got big efforts from Sophia Craft and Emma Emnett as Drew Emnett’s squad moved to 2-0 to begin the 2025-26 season with a 53-24 triumph over Manchester Saturday evening in a nonconference contest that was held at Clay High School in Rosemount.
Craft and Emnett ultimately combined for 37 points, 15 rebounds, 11 assists and six steals in the game — as Craft put up 21 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals while Emnett collected 16 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and four steals.
Ava Demorest posted a 10-point outing with two steals defensively while Mia Lunsford tallied eight rebounds and three steals.
Clay will travel to Wellston (0-4) Wednesday evening.

Boys basketball
West 57, Vincent Warren 37
In a fantastic scoring barrage from West’s Will Kegley, the veteran talent’s 28 points — and 18 in the opening half — helped lift the Senators to a big 20-point road win over OHSAA Division IV member Vincent Warren in a nonconference contest Saturday, helping West start its season 1-0.
West trailed by a 12-10 margin after the opening quarter but took a 27-22 advantage into the halftime locker room thanks in large part to Kegley, who scored 11 of his 18 first-half points in the second quarter.
The Senators then doubled up Warren 30-15 in the second half of play to win going away.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementLogan Wolfenbarker joined Kegley in double-figures with 15 points while Braden Adkins posted five tallies. Corbin Miller, Cristian Quirasco and Zane Pitts each posted three points apiece to round out West’s scoring.
The Senators are scheduled to host Fairland (1-0) on Friday evening in West Portsmouth.

Boys basketball
Portsmouth 49, Minford 41
Led by a balanced scoring effort, the Portsmouth Trojans’ boys basketball program emerged victorious in a nonconference contest against the Minford Falcons’ boys basketball program, with the Trojans defending home court successfully with an eight-point triumph in the season-opener for both teams.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementLogan Adkins led the Trojans in scoring with 13 points while Daequan Woods and Connie Thomas followed with nine and eight points, respectively.
Portsmouth (1-0) next plays Saturday, December 13 at the Battle of the 740, where the Trojans will play Racine Southern in a 2 p.m. contest at Shawnee State University. Minford fell to 0-1 with the loss and was scheduled to play at South Point Tuesday evening.
