The latest College Football Playoff rankings from the CFP committee were released on Tuesday night, and the Oklahoma Sooners saw no change from last week's ranking. OU stayed put at No. 8 after defeating LSU in Week 14, but there was plenty of movement around head coach Brent Venables' team.
That lack of movement for Oklahoma is a good thing for the Sooners, as they continued to be the highest-ranked two-loss team in the field. With OU sitting at eighth, it's another strong argument that they will in fact be in the playoff this year. The questions come down to whether or not Oklahoma will host in the first round, and who they'll play.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementBecause Oklahoma is ranked eighth, and the cutoff line for the bracket this year is the No. 10 spot, the Sooners should be safe with just one set of rankings left. The only teams ranked below the Sooners that have the ability to jump them by winning next week are No. 9 Alabama and No. 11 BYU, both of whom would be in with a conference title game victory. Even if both teams jump in front of OU, the Sooners would still be ranked 10th, putting them on the bracket.
With the Sooners idle this week, along with Notre Dame (10th), Miami (12th), Texas (13th), Vanderbilt (14th) and Utah (15th), it would take some extremely questionable decision-making by the committee for any of those teams to jump OU with no games played between the six teams, especially because Oklahoma has continued to be ranked the highest of that group over the past couple of weeks. Each of the teams in this group has already finished their season.
One of the big surprises from Tuesday night was Alabama leapfrogging Notre Dame for the ninth spot, meaning if this bracket were to hold, the Sooners and the Crimson Tide would face off in a rematch, with the game coming in Norman this time around. If Alabama wins on Saturday, they're likely to jump the Sooners, while a loss would still likely keep the Tide in the playoff, but they wouldn't be guaranteed that ninth spot anymore.

However, Sooner Nation saw the number they needed to see on Tuesday's rankings release, and now it's time to watch the conference championship games this weekend and await Sunday's final rankings to find out who Oklahoma will be playing in Round 1.
