The Texas Longhorns did not qualify for Tuesday night's 12-team playoff field, despite securing a rivalry win against Texas A&M to close the regular season. They are currently ranked No. 13 as of the December 2 rankings.

Texas defeated Texas A&M at home the day after Thanksgiving, but the Longhorns fell short of making the 12-team field in the penultimate playoff rankings released Tuesday. Their postseason fate now hinges on what happens during key games this weekend on the Championship Saturday field. Even then, it might be a stretch to consider them for a possible move up.
Some arguments could favor the Longhorns being ranked higher in the final rankings on Selection Sunday, but those would require losses from top teams. The Longhorns entered the final week of the regular season looking to strengthen their playoff resume. Still, the crowded national field and tight competition among the top-15 programs left them just outside contention at No. 13.
