Memphis had a tumultuous start to its season, finding itself at 4-11 with reportedly unhappy Ja Morant, but it has since turned things around, having won five of its last six and three in a row. Their last win was a 115-107 road win against the Sacramento Kings, with Zach Edey having a monster game, scoring 32 points on 16-of-20 shooting to go with 17 rebounds and five blocks. Cam Spencer added 16 points off the bench, while Jaylen Wells added 15, making all three of his attempts beyond the arc.
The Spurs remain a problem in the Western Conference, even without megastar Victor Wembanyama. De’Aaron Fox and Devin Vassell have picked up the scoring load for San Antonio, which has won five of their last seven contests. Their last outing was a tough 125-112 loss on the road at Minnesota, in a game San Antonio surely could have won. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Spurs maintained a four-point lead, but Minnesota would go on an 8-1 run in the first 71 seconds of the quarter to gain a lead they would not relinquish.
