Following the cancellation of NBC's Suits LA, Josh McDermitt has now set his next major television role. McDermitt was an important member of the Suits LA cast in his role as criminal defense lawyer Stuart Lane.

According to Deadline, McDermitt has now been cast for a significant recurring role in Fire Country season 4. He will make his debut on the CBS drama in season 4, episode 7, which will air on Friday, December 5.

McDermitt is playing Landon, who is "quietly upset and meek on the surface." He is the partner of Chloe (Alona Tal) and a father figure to her son, Tyler (Conor Sherry). In the aftermath of losing their homes during the recent wildfires, Tyler has been struggling, but it still comes as a surprise to Landon when he learns that Tyler has run away. Sherry will debut in the same episode as McDermitt, while Tal makes her first appearance in the following episode. Tal previously worked with Fire Country's leading cast member Max Thieriot in SEAL Team, which aired on CBS before moving to Paramount+ for the rest of its run.

Chloe and Thieriot's character, Bode, also share history in the series. She was his peer tutor in high school, and they had crushes on each other during their adolescent years. As such, a love triangle has the potential to form all these years later when Bode and Chloe reunite and with Landon as her current partner.

McDermitt's Fire Country role is good news for the actor after Suits LA was canceled. Expectations were high for the spinoff, especially after the original show's streaming dominance on Netflix. With a 36% Tomatometer score and 54% Popcornmeter score, though, Suits LA was not well-received by critics or audiences and was canceled after only a single season.

Prior to Suits LA, McDermitt starred for years in AMC's hit series The Walking Dead as Dr. Eugene Porter. The cowardly survivor didn't appear until season 4, but he went on to become a series regular who received significant character development as the show progressed. He remained with the show all the way through the series finale in season 11, even as many other regulars exited.

The main Walking Dead series ended in 2022 and Eugene has not appeared yet in any of the various spinoffs. In addition to his prominent role in Suits LA, McDermitt starred in the season 4 premiere of Danny McBride's HBO comedy-drama series The Righteous Gemstones.
