The Silent Hill games have become a staple of the horror genre, with an impenetrably moody setting that builds a sense of creeping dread, a central mystery steeped in the supernatural, and a host of iconic villains including the infamous Pyramid Head and the Bubble Head Nurses seen in the trailer.

The new film specifically adapts 2001's Silent Hill 2, focusing on main character James Sunderland who ventures to the cursed town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his dead wife. There are a total of 8 games in the Silent Hill series, plus multiple spin-offs and remasters.

"When a mysterious letter calls him back to Silent Hill in search of his lost love, James finds a once-recognizable town and encounters terrifying figures both familiar and new, and begins to question his own sanity," reads the IMDb logline for Return to Silent Hill.
