Warning: Spoilers ahead for Stranger Things season 5, Volume 1!The fifth and final season of Stranger Things keeps a lot of the focus on family, so it's fitting that the series finally showed another member of the Harrington family. Joe Keery's Steve Harrington has been a vital figure for the Netflix show since its debut in 2016. In fact, the character has had a remarkable redemption arc, going from Nancy's stereotypical jerky boyfriend to an absolute fan favorite.

By the end of Stranger Things season 5, Volume 1, Steve was stuck in the Upside Down with Dustin, Nancy, and Jonathan after following the Demogorgon they thought could lead them to Holly. His last time in the Upside Down was in season 4, when he, Nancy, and Robin tried to kill Vecna. Steve has certainly come a long way in the four years across the Stranger Things timeline, and thankfully, he didn't follow in his dad's footsteps.

In Stranger Things season 5's "Sorcerer" episode, Max revealed how she experienced a series of Henry Creel's memories after being trapped in Vecna's mindscape. One of the memories took place at Hawkins High in 1959, showing a young Joyce passing out flyers for a stage play she was directing. Joyce notably gave one to a jock who wasn't interested and called him "Harrington," meaning it was Steve's father, Danny.

The flashback memory marked the first time another Harrington was featured on Stranger Things, even though the family has been present in Hawkins for decades. Before that, all we knew about Danny was that he commonly went on business trips and that he was a "grade-A a**hole," according to Steve. Though Steve hasn't left Hawkins since graduating, he has done everything he could to avoid ending up like him.

Who Plays Danny Harrington In Stranger Things

Despite only appearing in one brief scene in Stranger Things season 5, the resemblance between a young Danny Harrington and Steve was uncanny. The same went for the actress who played the younger version of Joyce in the memory sequence. For the scene, Stranger Things' version of Danny Harrington was played by Aidan Armstrong, who shared his experience on Instagram in celebration of Volume 1's release.

Before his Stranger Things debut, Armstrong appeared in several indie movies and a short film. It's unclear if he will appear in any remaining Stranger Things episodes. However, since there's now a mystery surrounding whether Joyce knew Henry Creel, it's possible that the show will feature more 1950s flashbacks. There's also a chance for the show to reveal Steve's parents in the current timeline, but let's hope it's not for a tragic reason.

Volume 1 of Stranger Things season 5 is now available on Netflix. Volume 2 will be released on December 25, followed by the series finale on December 31.
