Nick Emmanwori played one of the best coverage snaps you’ll see all season yesterday against Justin Jefferson.
The Seattle Seahawks NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate flipped his hips an entire 360 degrees as Jefferson- one of the best route runners of all time- turns upfield after a hitch route before getting to the sideline. Emmanwori stayed with the all-pro receiver after several breaks on the route, each of which would’ve left the vast majority of defensive backs trailing for an easy first down.

Emmanwori’s athleticism can’t be overstated. His combine testing received a perfect 10.00 Relative Athletic Score, the best for a safety as far as the data goes back. His speed and size are both in the 95-99th percentile, and his explosiveness is 99.9th percentile.
His college film from the University of South Carolina was raw, but showed enough promise for Seattle to trade up and draft him 35th overall in April.
Even after a Week 1 injury held him out Weeks 2-4, he’s become a serious contender for the DROTY award since coming back in Week 5. Now, it feels like it’s every week that his one of a kind physical tools show up on a jaw-dropping play like this. Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger is a clear frontrunner, but with one or two hallmark plays, Emmanwori might be able to catch up.

If he creates a headline-worthy turnover this week in Atlanta, he can force his way past Falcons edge rusher Jalon Walker as a favorite to be a finalist with just a few weeks to go.
