“The best in VA, stay in VA.” That’s apparently the new motto for Virginia recruits who spurn other schools and remain in the Commonwealth to play college football for the Virginia Tech Hokies.
On Monday, 4-star offensive tackle Thomas Wilder from Virginia Beach announced he was signing with the Hokies on Wednesday. Now, 4-star wide receiver Davion “Fatrat” Brown made his pledge public. Another former Penn State commit, Brown was making his final choice between the Hokies and Maryland Terrapins. With James Franklin in Blacksburg, it was an easy decision for Brown, who initially committed to PSU back in May. However, when the Nittany Lions fired Franklin, Brown backed off his commitment in October.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Brown is from Richmond, Virginia, where he plays for Trinity Episcopal. Brown reported over 30 offers, with several from ACC, Big Ten and SEC teams. He’s a big get for Virginia Tech.

While he’s a wide receiver, Trinity used him often on shorter routes because he was so dynamic after the catch. Brown can be a Day-1 contributor in Blacksburg.
Brown is the first wide receiver to commit to VT’s 2026 class.
According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Brown is the No. 6 player in Virginia for 2026, the No. 38 receiver nationally, and the 259th-ranked overall prospect.
Welcome home, Davion.
