Lanterns, DC's new Green Lantern series, had its first trailer revealed, and the franchise might be teasing two unexpected heroes for the 2026 release. While we don't know its exact release date, HBO's Green Lantern series will be released in late summer 2026. While fans still wait for more news about the show, the first Lanterns trailer was showcased at an HBO event.
Omelete revealed all the details shown in the Lanterns trailer at an HBO Max Upfront event in Brazil on November 25. The footage focused on Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre's John Stewart, the two Green Lanterns who lead the cast of DC's Lanterns series. Aside from how the two do not see exactly eye to eye, two other Green Lanterns were unexpectedly teased.
Two Green Lanterns Might Have Been Teased By DC's First Lanterns Trailer

The Lanterns trailer revealed a Hal Jordan twist. While DC had announced that Hal would be training John in Lanterns, the trailer explains that he is not Stewart's original trainer, given that Jordan is filling in for someone the series has yet to reveal. There are two possible players who could take that role. Kilowog makes a lot of sense.
The character has become known as the primary drill instructor of the Green Lantern Corps, so it would be fitting if he were to be John Stewart's teacher. Another possible character that could occupy that role is Katma Tui, who trained Stewart in the animated Justice League series. However, given Kilowog's bigger role in the DC canon, he would be more fitting.
The first Green Lantern show trailer also teased another character. The footage mentions a squirrel Green Lantern. Before James Gunn's Superman was released, DC fans believed that Superman set photos teased a squirrel Green Lantern, but it was the animal that the Man of Steel saved from the kaiju. Lanterns could be teasing Ch'p, the squirrel Green Lantern, who is later succeeded by B'dg.
Why The Two Green Lanterns Would Be Surprising For The DC Universe TV Show

While having other Green Lanterns in the HBO series would make sense, there is a reason why Kilowog and Ch'p would be two unexpected additions to the show. After all, DC has explained how Lanterns is more grounded than the usual Green Lantern space fare that fans are used to. The show feels like HBO's True Detective, exploring a dark mystery on Earth.
The trailer is also said to focus on a Western tone. As such, Kilowog and Ch'p, two Green Lanterns that require CGI and cosmic connections to come to life, would feel out of place. I'm glad that we at least get teases of the characters if they don't appear, and the confirmed roles of Guy Gardner and Sinestro make up for Lanterns' possible absences.
