Sunday was a complete debacle for the Pittsburgh Steelers defense. The Buffalo Bills ran all over the Steelers defense to the tune of 249 rushing yards. This was a historic figure for the Steelers at home but when you realize how the Bills did it, you get a deeper understanding of just how far gone the Pittsburgh defense is.
During the game, the Bills ran the same run play 29 times. So out of the 43 called runs to running backs, 67 percent of those runs were the same play. Despite this, the Steelers had no answer. They continued to crash down the line of scrimmage, failing to set the edge and the Bills running backs exploited the poor angles and tackling of the Steelers defenders.
The Steelers defense has been much maligned this season despite being the most expensive unit in the league. Statistically, this group is on pace to be the worst defense this team has had with Mike Tomlin as head coach.
