From Ozzy Osbourne to Ace Frehley, D'Angelo to Brian Wilson and Donna Jean Godchaux, the list is feels devastatingly endless. Nothing hits harder when we lose someone many years before their time. Joining the older ilk of music's passing this year is rapper Poorstacy, who died at only 26 years old on Saturday, November 29.
Carlito Milfort Jr., otherwise known as Poorstacy, passed away in Boca Raton on Saturday after an 'incident'—his cause of death has not yet been made public. Details have been notably scarce. However, the Boca Raton police department confirmed the rapper's death with People Magazine on Tuesday, December 2.
According to a worker at the hotel where he had been staying with a woman and a toddler for about 10 days, Milfort was transported to a nearby hospital due to a medical emergency.
Poorstacy's Collaborators Express Support Following His Death
Of his collaborators, Poorstacy's most notable is likely Travis Barker, known primarily as the drummer for blink-182. The pair were frequent collaborators, and Barker posted a video of the two of them performing the song "Hills Have Eyes" as a tribute to the rapper on his Instagram story, writing, "Rest in peace you'll never be forgotten," along with a broken heart emoji.
Poorstacy was known for blending emo rap, hip-hop, punk, and even heavy metal, as is reflected by his collaborators; in addition to Barker, he has collaborated with Oli Sykes, vocalist and frontman of the emo metal band Bring Me The Horizon. Sykes also took to Instagram stories to post a tribute to the rapper in the wake of his passing, posting a photo of the two of them together with the caption "R.I.P." and a black heart emoji.
The rapper released two full-length studio albums, two EPs, and a number of other singles throughout his short career. His legacy will surely live on, however, in the lives of his fans, collaborators, friends, and family.
