After an underwhelming season that left fans restless, the San Francisco Giants look poised to take a big swing ahead of the Winter Meetings. Rafael Devers can’t carry the offense alone, and the team’s front office knows it, making the search for another power hitter one of the franchise’s top offseason priorities.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementMLB Network analyst Jon Morosi reported that “the Giants are among the teams that have checked in on Kyle Schwarber.”
Schwarber enters free agency as the premier power hitter on the market after leading the National League with 56 home runs and 132 RBIs last season. Placing him alongside Devers would dramatically raise San Francisco’s run-scoring ceiling and provide much-needed lineup protection.
Fan frustration mounting as Giants prepare to go all-in this offseason
After a promising 41–31 start to the 2025 season that put them second in the National League West, the San Francisco Giants pushed in all their chips and acquired Devers in an effort to reach the postseason for the first time since 2022. The move sent a clear message to the fanbase that the franchise was serious about going all in.

Irritation grew among fans when The Athletic’sAndrew Baggarly reported that the Giants aren’t expected to meet the price needed to land Japanese free-agent pitcher Tatsuya Imai, or other top-tier arms.
According to Baggarly, financial considerations are limiting San Francisco’s pursuit of pitchers projected to command nine-figure deals. Instead, the club is targeting more modestly priced options.
The news disappointed a fanbase that had hoped the acquisitions of Rafael Devers, along with long-term deals for Willy Adames and Matt Chapman, would signal a serious push to compete with division rivals and back-to-back World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Schwarber is expected to command a major deal, with projections ranging from four to five years and a total value between $120 million and $160 million. The Giants would face competition from other big-market clubs, including the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets and Boston Red Sox.
Such a move could be exactly what Buster Posey and the front office needs to show ambition and reassure a fanbase eager for bold action.
